    Our Publishing & Event Technology department is seeking an eBook Developer.  In this position, you'll be responsible for converting the division's publishing content into multiple eBook formats (EPUB,  MOBI, PRC,  PDF) through the development of and use of templates, scripting, and automation according to production schedules and deadlines. The eBook Developer oversees structural tagging schemas consistent with other publishing components and business needs, and collaborates on the development of publishing file structures, systems and repository requirements.

    Responsibilities

    • Administer and monitor the application of mark-up coding languages to content production files via the heavy use of scripting and hand-coding to meet quality and coding language standards (HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, OSA, GREP, and other automation tools). Propose new structural tags and processes based on industry standards for ePub publishing
    • Meet approved production schedules and processes while ensuring that products meet industry and corporate quality standards and deliver high-quality content to the division's internal and external customers. Collaborate with other content specialists to research, develop and drive efficiencies into publishing processes through the use of scripting and automation
    • Stay current in new technologies related to trade publishing that could benefit LifeWay and recommend new applications, processes, and training that could help gain process efficiencies. Create synergy, improve skills and train publishing teams across divisions to maximize and leverage the benefits of software applications
    • Work with eBook developers, metadata specialists, and publishing staff in troubleshooting content, workflow and digital content coding best practices
    • Collaborate with the eBook development team, Manager, and Director to fulfill the division's mission, values, and strategy for digital content

    Qualifications

    • Experience with publishing processes and trends (desktop, mobile, web) and current authoring systems and standards (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite, XML/HTML Editors, ePub 3)
    • Digital publishing workflow management and design in a high-output, high-quality creative environment
    • Demonstrated project management and problem solving experience
    • High-level of computer proficiency with web development, Internet protocols (i.e. http, ftp), information and document management software, and coding/markup languages (XML, CSS, HTML, XHTML, JavaScript, GREP)
    • Excellent graphic design and typography skills with a superior level of attention to detail in managing multiple products, formats, and deadlines
    • Strong understanding of electronic publishing protocols and technology, knowledge of the publishing industry, and general understanding of copyright law
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills desired.

    Minimum Education Required

    Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or Multimedia preferred
