    The Product Development Specialist will work within our Publishing and Events Technology team to lead the work of product setup and development and related workflow processes through corporate publishing systems. The role will be responsible for ensuring quality title data exists in all systems and in compliance with internal and external business rules and contracts, supporting international publishing ventures and licensing, and providing system training to publishing staff, as needed.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist the assigned ministry teams in executing a holistic publishing strategy by leading the product setup and metadata development processes in title management and integration and compliance with other corporate inventory and ordering systems, and including preparation for distribution to external trade partners via ONIX feeds.
    • Serve as the primary point-of-contact for product development and metadata issues for assigned ministry areas; collaborates with assigned ministry teams, business analysts, and procurement to develop and maintain the publishing product pipeline for assigned ministry teams; provides supporting data for working with other publishers, authors, and ministries.
    • Initiates cross-reference identifier assignments, such as ISBN, UPC, LIN, ISSN and master item number assignment process for ongoing resources. 
    • Provides support services for publishing contracts, including licensing agreements for international editions and visually impaired customers. 
    • Trains ministry area staff in the product development processes and business rules, publishing guidelines and standards, and best use of corporate publishing, inventory, and ordering systems. 

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in computer information systems, journalism, accounting or process engineering focus
    • 2 years of product management experience; creation and maintenance of large volumes of product data
    • 1 year of publishing and business experience, such as writing, editing, procurement/estimating, production or project management preferred
    • 2 years of experience with computer information systems, such as database applications
    • Attentative to detail and execution accuracy
    • Thorough knowledge of print and digital publishing production processes and work-flows
    • Excellent computer skills in Word, Excel, Adobe, Google; Competence in Firebrand, Oracle, Alliant or comparable systems
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills
    • Outstanding business, organizational, and analytical skills; capable of managing high volume of detailed data with accuracy
    • Some travel may be required
