  • Overview


    The Metadata Production & Publishing Specialist is responsible for production and timely publishing of product metadata according to internal release schedules and trade publishing standards while ensuring highest quality and industry compliant metadata resides for all publishing titles and products in corporate systems and on retail sites, including distribution to external trade partners. The role is responsible for maintaining or adding retail channel flags and external trade channels and partners as needed, troubleshooting and leading efforts to correct inaccurate metadata, and providing support and guidance to teams for metadata best practices and release schedules.


    • Analyzes and queries product data on a continuous basis for metadata completeness and compliance with BISG best practices; publishing on time according to release schedules established to sync with internal wave activity and quarterly roll for recurring orders, trade publishing release dates (three lists annually), seasonal releases, and special LifeWay exclusive or Release to Trade dates; refers problems to appropriate Product Development Specialist, Marketing Specialist, or Publishing team staff to correct or update. Ultimately responsible for publishing product data to all retail and trade channels on scheduled release dates.
    • Reviews retail channel codes and ONIX feed partners to ensure product metadata distributes to appropriate retail channel sites and external trade partner channels; actively leads resolution of data issues; researches and recommends resolutions for customer service customer issues; responsible for having new ONIX trade partner feeds established; recommends retail channel code changes.
    • Tests CHO and MCM setup each quarter to ensure all titles are accurately represented with cover images, titles, and descriptions and that content is available and downloadable; provides feedback to publishing teams to correct issues as needed; actively participates in departmental planning teams for best use of existing technology or development of new technology for processing product metadata; remains knowledgeable of data maps between title management and proprietary channels and BISG ONIX codes and values for ONIX feeds to external trade partners.
    • Consults as a resource and guide for metadata standards and best practices. Maintains personal, professional, and spiritual development by attending training events and through individual study.


    • Bachelor's degree in business, communications, marketing, English, information systems, or related field
    • 3 years of experience with demonstrated success in working collaboratively across multiple teams in domains of content development, marketing, customer service and technology
    • 3 years of experience with publishing systems related to title management, content delivery, data science, digital workflows, and thorough knowledge of requirements and metadata standards (ONIX and XML markup language) within the industry's governance organizations (BISG)
    • 3 years of publishing experience with trade books, educational resources, or in Information Technology related to digital content and data mapping or conversion
    • Ability to query, analyze and validate structured data
    • Expert skill with Excel or database query tools like SQL or API search tools
    • Detailed conceptualization, organization, taxonomy, and data modeling abilities
    • Ability to maintain quality detailed output in a repetitive production environment
    • Clearly communicate complex issues and data models with diverse teams
    • Data management, online data merchandising, or data analysis in trade or educational publishing or retail industries
