Graphic Designer

Lifeway Creative is hiring a full-time Graphic Designer with experience in publishing design, art direction, and print production. This role will focus on the development of print assets, including book covers and interior templates, often utilizing treatments such as gold foil and embossing. As a Graphic Designer, you’ll work collaboratively with the Acquisitions team to establish the visual tone, look, and feel of each book project, balancing your own design work with art direction of other designers, illustrators, and photographers. This role requires creativity, precision, and a deep commitment to Lifeway’s mission to bring inspiring resources to our Christian community while offering the opportunity to work on best-selling book projects, be a part of a collaborative & caring design team, and experience a wide range of work that serves the global Church. 
  
Ideal candidates have 4+ years of experience in design and art direction within the publishing industry and excel at creating engaging visuals that resonate with our mission-driven audience.

This is a remote position in the U.S. with occasional travel to Nashville for in-person team gatherings. #LI-Remote

• Designs and art directs print and digital assets, including book covers and (occasionally) marketing materials, ensuring brand and mission alignment across all projects. 
• Creates visually compelling book covers and interior templates, applying advanced typography and design principles for effective and engaging long-form content. 
• Manages and directs multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines, working within budgets, and balancing quality across all. 
• Collaborates closely with authors and the Acquisitions team to understand and execute their vision, providing a consistent tone, look, and feel that meets reader needs. 
• Employs specialized design and production techniques such as gold foil, embossing, and refined typography for high-impact book designs and other print materials. 
• Establishes interior design templates, creating versatile design systems while refining details to the half millimeter for optimal quality. 
• Leads design efforts, providing guidance and mentorship to other designers on the team with humility and collaborative leadership. 
• Engages with design team members who excel in tenacity, galvanizing, enablement, and invention, supporting team cohesion and productivity. 
• Balances creative vision with practical application, designing high-impact pieces for various audiences, including books and occasional church bulletins. 
• Uses Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) proficiently. Some experience in Procreate, Midjourney, hand lettering, and/or advanced typography is a plus. 
•  Minimal travel, occasionally overnight

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in graphic design or visual communication, required

Skills, Knowledge, & Experiences, required

• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in graphic design, art direction, or publishing, particularly in print materials and book cover design.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) with a strong grasp of design techniques for both print and digital formats.
• Experience with advanced typography, print layout, and template creation for long-form publications.
• Demonstrated experience with special printing techniques such as gold foil and embossing.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, directing both individual designs and collaborative projects with other designers.
• High attention to detail, ensuring refined and precise designs that meet Lifeway’s quality standards.
• Experience collaborating with and leading other creatives to deliver quality creative work within time and budget parameters 

Actively involved in an evangelical Christian church

Skills, Knowledge, & Experiences, preferred

• Familiarity with Procreate and/or Midjourney 
• Advanced typography and/or hand-lettering skills 
• Some Spanish language ability 
• Experience in mission-driven publishing or Christian publishing.
